The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition works to promote bicycling for everyday transportation. Position description
The Public Affairs Intern will gain experience in communications around bicycle advocacy in San Francisco. This internship will focus on how we grow and maintain a strong and positive presence online and in the media in order to further our mission of promoting the bicycle as everyday transportation. The Public Affairs Intern will provide direct administrative support to Communications Director and Communications Associate.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
- Track media hits related to the SF Bicycle Coalition and our work;
- Assist with weekly production of the Biker Bulletin;
- Copy-editing;
- Reach out to petition signatories with strategic opportunities to advance our campaigns; and
- Light design projects may also be available for the right intern.
Secondary Roles and Responsibilities:
- Create and/or edit blog posts;
- Assist with digital asset management, whether that’s tagging photos, creating facebook albums, selecting photos for instagram use or resizing images;
- Bi-weekly professional development meetings, where the Communications Dept. leaves the office to discuss communications strategies, lessons and outcomes from recent SFBC projects, to learn from those experiences and each other.
Required dates for this internship include:
- January 2016: First day orientation (exact day TBD)

This unpaid internship offers a flexible schedule with a 15-20 hour/week minimum commitment. This is chiefly a Monday through Friday internship, with occasional, infrequent evenings and weekends. Interns are expected to make a three-month commitment, which may be extended. This internship will begin in January 2016 and extend through May 2016. While the position is not paid, we are happy to work with any academic requirements the intern may have to help them earn course credit for their efforts.
